What Is a Ported Number?

A ported number has moved from one operator to another under mobile number portability. The digits stay the same and the network changes.

Ported Number in Practice

The range prefix still points at the range holder after a port. The recipient network now serves the number. Routing on the range sends traffic to the range holder, which forwards or rejects the traffic. A number ports more than once over its life.
